Emirates announces fifth daily to Karachi

EMIRATES has strengthened its commitment to Pakistan by announcing the addition of a fifth daily flight to and from the city of Karachi. Effective August 1, 2012, the airline will be operating to Jinnah International Airport in Karachi five times a day. The additional frequency will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER in a two-class configuration. In the past six months, Emirates has experienced robust growth and increased its presence in Northern Pakistan by starting additional flights to Peshawar, Lahore and Islamabad. Starting August, Emirates will be operating 54 weekly flights to and from four cities in Pakistan – Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar – of which two frequencies are subject to Government approval.

Sana’a joins flydubai’s expanding network

FLYDUBAI has announced Sana’a, the capital of the Republic of Yemen as the latest addition to its expanding route network. Flights to Yemen will commence on April 22, 2012, with four weekly flights to Sana’a. In parallel to developing its industrial, commercial, and economic capabilities, Yemen is also working towards bolstering leisure tourism by preserving some of its architectural and historic gems, and developing the associated infrastructure including hospitality and transport. One way fares from Dubai to Sana’a start at Dh570 ($155) and fares from Sana’a to Dubai start at Dh605 ($165).

More baggage for Etihad Premium guests

ETIHAD Airways has increased baggage allowances for all Pearl Business class and Diamond First class guests by 10 kilograms. Guests travelling in Pearl Business class will now have an allowance of 40kg, and guests in Diamond First class will have an allowance of 50kg. Members of the Etihad Guest frequent flyer program travelling in the Diamond First class or Pearl Business class cabins will be able to enjoy additional baggage allowances.

Gulf Air gets lightweight trolleys onboard

IN its efforts to becoming an environment- friendly airline, Gulf Air, which is known for introducing several carbon emission reduction initiatives in the past, has introduced new set of lightweight trolleys onboard. The new trolleys are manufactured according to the latest technology by using composite material that are sturdy, lightweight and have longer durability and are lighter by an average of six to 10 kgs, resulting in an estimated savings of BD350,000 ($928,300) per year in fuel consumption. Once the entire fleet is equipped with the new trolleys, it is estimated to reduce 3000 tons of CO2 emission per year. The new trolleys are currently used on selected routes and will be gradually extended across the entire Gulf Air fleet and network.

Qatar Airways launches Oryx Premium

QATAR Airways has introduced a new all-premium onboard magazine exclusively for its First and Business Class passengers. The new monthly publication, Oryx Premium, complements the existing series of Oryx magazines and entertainment guides onboard the Five-Star carrier. Oryx Premium’s introduction is part of the airline’s enhancement to its in-flight programme implemented from the beginning of 2012 that also includes a complete redesign of the carrier’s in-flight entertainment guides and the introduction of several additional languages to the airline’s movie selection.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said that the airline was always looking for ways to enhance its award-winning Five-Star service and that the introduction of Oryx Premium provided Qatar Airways’ First and Business Class passengers with information tailored to their interests.
