Gulf Air wins accolades for punctuality

GULF AIR has been ranked among the top ten global airlines for achieving the highest on-time performance of its flights for the month of January 2013. The airline is also among the finalists for the 2012 FlightStats On-time Performance Service Awards for the Middle East region. Flightstats ranked Gulf Air at the eighth position with a punctuality rate of 85.21 per cent. The only other Middle East airline in the list is Saudi Arabian Airlines at the ninth position.

 

Jordan airport terminal launch on March 21

AIRPORT International Group (AIG), the international consortium responsible for the development and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), said the new terminal will officially start its operation on March 21.

A consortium led by Abu Dhabi-owned Invest AD and Kuwait’s Noor Financial Investment Company, AIG said QAIA is one of the most important Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the history of Jordan.

The AIG had been awarded a 25-year build-operate-transfer (BoT) concession by the Jordanian government in 2007. With the opening of the new terminal, the airport will be able to handle nearly nine million passengers a year.

 

Royal Jordanian increases flights to Libya

ROYAL Jordanian (RJ) increased its operations to Libyan destinations to 15 weekly flights, in light of the growing demand on travel between the two counties. RJ added three regular flights between Amman and Tripoli, on February 9, bringing its overall operation to Tripoli up to 10 weekly from one daily. The service between Amman and Misrata also has been increased from one to two weekly since February 6. The airline operates three weekly flights to Benghazi.

 

Dubai to host GALF

REED Exhibitions announced the launch of the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum (GALF) in Dubai, which aims to become one of the world’s leading platforms for airport leaders to address the global challenges that the industry faces and encourage cross-border partnerships and cooperation.

GALF will act as an industry meeting to generate solutions that can help airport CEOs, decision-makers and experts from around the world overcome their common challenges. The event will be held from May 7 – 8 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, collocated with the 13th Airport Show.

 

flydubai expands Pakistan network

FLYDUBAI, Dubai’s innovative airline, is to begin operations to two new destinations in Pakistan – Multan and Sialkot. Flights to the north-eastern city of Silkot and Multan, located in central Pakistan, will operate three times a week from March 13 and 14, 2013 respectively. Return fares start at Dh1,050 ($285).

 

Oman Air adds two aircraft to fleet

OMAN AIR is further expanding its fleet of Boeing 737-800s with the introduction of two additional aircraft, bringing the airline’s total fleet strength to 30. Both wet-leased aircraft was deployed in the beginning of February and will double daily services from Oman Air’s home base of Muscat to Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad. In addition, the frequency of flights from Muscat to Lahore and Muscat to Islamabad is being increased to offer a daily service.

Boeing 737s currently form the backbone of Oman Air’s fleet and fly on a range of short and medium-haul routes. In addition to the two new aircraft, the fleet includes 15 B737-800s, two B737-700s, four Airbus A330-200s, three A330-300s, four Embraer E175 regional jests and two ATR 42s.
