Residents and visitors to Bahrain are in for a treat this summer as the world’s largest underwater diving park is expected to welcome guests this August.

Work on the project, which is located in Diyar Al Muharraq, is in full swing and the project will span an area of 100,000-sq-m, making it  the largest diving park in the world.

The underwater theme park will include several unique dive spots in addition to artificial coral reefs that will be submerged in the later stages of the project in order to form a safe haven for the kingdom’s marine ecosystem, to encourage coral growth and the development of a sustainable habitat for marine-life to thrive.

It will also be home to a 70-meter decommissioned Boeing 747 aircraft, the largest plane ever to be submerged.

Speaking ahead of the opening, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, said: “We are proud to launch this unique eco-friendly project in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Environment and the private sector.”

The project is implemented in accordance to strict environmental standards and international best industry practices in the field of environmental sustainability; with an overall aim to revive the Kingdom’s marine ecosystem and preserve its local marine environment, he noted. - TradeArabia News Service
