UK Travel giant TUI has cancelled all mainland Spanish holidays until August 9 following the UK government's decision to impose a 14-day quarantine on people arriving in to the country from Spain, said a report.

The firm said all those going to the Balearic and Canary Islands could still travel as planned from Monday, BBC reported.

The airline industry has reacted with dismay to the decision to impose the quarantine, calling it a big blow.

Quarantine measures apply to those returning from mainland Spain, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, such as Majorca and Ibiza, the report said.

British Airways and easyJet have strongly criticised the UK government’s decision, but have said they will continue to operate flights despite the quarantine rules.

The UK government's quaratine decision is a result of a spike in Spanish coronavirus cases, with more than 900 new cases reported on Friday, it said.

Spanish officials have also warned a second wave could be imminent as major cities have seen cases surge, the report said.
