Germany's largest airline Lufthansa has launched its operations on the Dubai-Munich route with three weekly flights - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, - thus doubling its capacity on flights from Dubai.

This new connection will complement the existing daily flights to Frankfurt as well as the daily Swiss flights from Dubai to Zurich in the winter. Munich is an important Lufthansa hub offering a large choice of onward connections.

Lufthansa flight LH638 landed today (October 2) at 6.40am in Dubai from Munich, thus kicking off its new German operations. The return flight LH639 will depart Dubai three times a week at 8:30am, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving in Munich at 12.50pm the same day (local times).

The new route is being operated by an Airbus A350-900, which is one of the world’s most modern and environmentally friendly aircraft, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to sustainability.

Serkan Guerguen, Senior Director Sales for Mena and Turkey, said: "For Lufthansa Group Airlines, UAE has always been important and we are proud to have successfully launched this new route just in time for the Expo. With the introduction of this new connection, we have doubled our capacity on routes to the UAE compared to pre-crisis levels."

"Furthermore, we are expecting an overall increase in demand this winter, especially to the holiday destinations in the Alps, the US, and Canada, therefore, we will be offering 85,000 additional seats on board Lufthansa Group flights," he added.

Welcoming the debut Munich flight, Jamal Al Hai, Deputy CEO of Dubai Airports, said: "Germany is among the top ten country markets for Dubai International with 2.6 million in passenger traffic in 2019 and the launch of this new service will enable further growth by boosting connectivity and adding timely capacity between the two destinations."

Holger Mahnicke, Consul General of Germany at Dubai said: "The new Lufthansa direct flights between Dubai and Munich are important for connecting the people of our two countries. This also sends a strong signal at the start of the Expo 2020."

To mark the launch, the German carrier is offering a special introductory fare on tickets from Dubai to Europe. Under this, customers can book special round trip tickets until October 20 for travel dates between October 2021 and March 25, 2022.

The promotional prices begin at AED1,715 for Economy Class, AED2,975 for Premium Economy and AED7,375 for Business Class.-TradeArabia News Service
