With the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship kicking off early next year, the globally acclaimed Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is readying itself to take centre stage and host the very first race of the season on March 5 next year.

Located at Sakhir, 30km south-west of the capital city Manama, the spectacular venue is designed by renowned curator Herman Tilke and is reputed as one of the most advanced in the world. With the excitement building for the 2023 kick off race, racing fans and thrill seekers are in for a treat to experience the best of Arabian hospitality, heritage and world-class entertainment.

The upcoming Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix will be one of most successful since the launch of the event 19 years ago, thanks to the tremendous efforts exerted by the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), led by Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi has said.

She indicated that the kingdom will reap the fruits of the upcoming edition at all levels, especially the tourism sector, including hotels, restaurants, event organising companies and agents, as the event will attract an unprecedented number of tourists and visitors to the kingdom.

The minister was speaking as she met the BIC chief executive and a number of executive officials, who briefed her about BIC’s programmes and readiness for 2022-2023 season of international and local championships, events and tests.

They discussed coordination in all events hosted by BIC throughout the year, including the Bahrain International Air Show.

Minister Al Sairafi stressed the keenness of the Tourism Ministry to provide support and facilities to the BIC, highlighting the establishment of joint working teams between them to carry out all the necessary tasks quickly and effectively.

She praised BIC’s ability to host mega events in the kingdom round the year, particularly the Formula On Grand Prix, which is an event that draws the world’s attention to the kingdom.

Shaikh Salman bin Isa expressed BIC’s keenness to achieve its common goals with the ministry in the interests of the kingdom.

He underlined BIC’s keenness to expand joint work with the Tourism Ministry to consolidate Bahrain’s position as a destination for sports tourism, in light of the existence of BIC as one of the most prominent international circuits, which is home to motorsports in the Middle East.

F1 EXTENDS BAHRAIN CONTRACT

FORMULA 1 will race in Bahrain until 2036 after contract extension, it was reported earlier this year. Formula 1 will continue to race in Bahrain until at least the year 2036, following an extension of the contract with the race’s promoter, the Bahrain International Circuit.

The Sakhir-based circuit first hosted Formula 1 back in 2004, and has provided some unmissable racing action over the years – not least in 2020, when two separate configurations of the track were used to host two separate Grands Prix.

Speaking of the bumper contract renewal, Formula 1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali, said: “I am delighted we will be racing at the Bahrain International Circuit until 2036 where more incredible racing and excitement will be on show to thrill our fans. Since 2004 we have had some fantastic races in Sakhir and we cannot wait to be back there.

“Bahrain was the first country in the Middle East to welcome Formula 1 and it has a very special place in our sport, and I personally want to thank HRH Prince Salman and his team for their dedication and hard work throughout our partnership and look forward to the many years of racing ahead of us.”
