DJIBOUTI Palace Kempinski has now increased its initial 175 guest room inventory to a total of 253 rooms and suites and 55 apartments as it completed the second phase of its development recently.
Nakheel Hotels & Resorts of Dubai and Kempinski Hotels’ five star resort at the Horn of Africa are developing the areas. Construction was carried out by Taisei, the same Japanese company that had already constructed the first part. The traditional architectural design of Phase one has now got a counterpart with the new six level high building consisting of deluxe hotel rooms and suites, stores and lounges, bars and restaurants, a gym and spacious spa area and luxury hotel apartments.
A fitness center offers the latest sports and gym equipment which caters to the strong demand from the top end community of local residents and expatriates. Operated by Softouch, K-Wellness Spa is unique in the northern region of East Africa and offers a wide range of international massage treatments by an international team of specialists such as Balinese massage and Indian Ayurveda. The spa houses various treatment rooms, sauna, steam bath and an Arabic hammam. The second swimming pool completes the wellness oasis of the hotel.
Orlando Stefani, general manager said, “Djibouti is a destination where the waters of Red Sea and Indian Ocean mingle as do the cultural varieties of Africa and the Arab world, which is the same motto as for the hotel”.
“The first phase of the hotel which was opened in November 2006, already features a casino, night club, large pool and garden area, several restaurants and bars in addition to the region's largest banqueting room which is enough for 1100 people; however, the newly completed second phase presents itself as the recreational part of the property and adds many leisure components to the hotel”, added Stefani.
The hotel currently has three restaurants, five bars, a night club, a casino, a ballroom, four conference and meeting rooms, two lounges, gym, spa, Arabic hammam, swimming pools, diving centre, beach activities, two tennis courts, hairdresser for women and men and various retail shops.
