Jazeera boosts network

Jazeera Airways has announced its further expansion into the regional market with the launch of non-stop flights to Lahore – the airline’s first destination in Pakistan.

Passengers can fly three times a week from Kuwait to the capital city known as the ‘cultural heart of Pakistan’ on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The launch of the Lahore destination comes as part of Jazeera’s recent network expansion, which includes flights this summer to some of the region’s most desirable holiday spots including Antalya, Turkey, Hurghada, Egypt, and Salalah in Oman.

Celebrations in Turkey

Turkish Airlines has been celebrating following its triumphs at the recent Skytrax World Airline Awards in Hamburg, Germany.

The Turkish national flag carrier took the awards for the Best Airline Southern Europe and the Best Economy-Class Airline Catering.

It also managed to jump a place in the Best European Airline rankings from fourth place last year to third place this year.

flydubai opens new Indian gateway

Dubai’s first low-cost airline flydubai has announced flights to the Indian city of Lucknow (pictured).

Flights to the north-east city of Lucknow, the capital of India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, will operate thrice weekly from June 2.

The new service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Dubai returning on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Non-stop Dubai-Berlin service

Air Berlin, Germany’s second largest airline, has announced a new non-stop service from Dubai to Berlin, commencing on November 3, 2010. The new route will be operated three times per week, using Airbus A330-200 planes with fares from €199 ($246)  one way, including taxes and charges.

Lufthansa launches A380 flagship

Customers can now book flights on a Lufthansa A380 and experience the airline’s new flagship at first hand.

Bookings for the intercontinental routes on which the world’s largest passenger aircraft will be operated are now being taken. The A380 will commence scheduled flights on  June 11 on the Frankfurt – Tokyo route, replacing the current Boeing 747-400 service. The first Airbus A380 to be delivered to Lufthansa will depart from Frankfurt – initially on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays – for Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. The return flight to Frankfurt is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Once Lufthansa takes delivery of its second A380, the service will operate daily from August 4.

From August 25,  Lufthansa’s third A380 is due to begin flights from Frankfurt to Beijing three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The return flight from the Chinese capital is scheduled in each case for the following day. A daily connection is planned from the end of October, when the fourth A380 joins the Lufthansa fleet.


From October 25, the Lufthansa flagship is expected to be deployed thrice weekly (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) on the Frankfurt-Johannesburg route. The return flight from South Africa to Frankfurt will depart the following day.
