The Wheel of Fury ride at Adventureland in Sharjah

THE UAE is all abuzz with news of new theme park openings. In early September, Dubai-based development company, Meraas Holding, unveiled the blueprint for the Dubai Parks and Resorts project that is set to take shape in Jebel Ali.

The first phase of development, scheduled for completion ins 2016, will see three theme parks come to life – Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, and Legoland Dubai. The development will also feature Riverpark, a grand entrance plaza, and Lapita, a family-themed hotel. Ground work has commenced on the site in February 2014.

In Sharjah, Adventureland has reopened its gates after a period of renovation, having added 10,000 square feet of new features to its entertainment portfolio, offering first-time-in-the-UAE rides such as the Motocoaster, a two-level indoor go-karts track and a four-level soft play facility. The indoor park forms part of Sharjah’s popular lifestyle and retail destination Sahara Centre in Al Nahda.

Spread over an impressive 70,000 square feet, Adventureland is heavily themed as a jungle destination. Its virtual world of trees, animals, wall murals and tribal huts is set amidst a kaleidoscope of colourful jungle icons and characters. The park is divided into zones that offer up all kinds of under-the-roof entertainment, with chief attractions including 21 rides, simulators, video and redemption games and an arcade area.
