An enhanced global standing helps Canada attract travellers and investment from around the world, according to Country RepTrak report. The Reputation Institute’s 2015 Country RepTrak report has named Canada as having the world’s best reputation, ahead of Norway in second place and Sweden in third spot.

Canada came out as the number one country to visit, live, study and work, as well as placing second as a destination to invest in and attend or organise events. Key drivers in the rankings were Canada being a safe and beautiful country, with friendly and welcoming people as well as an appealing lifestyle.

Over the first seven months of 2015, total international visitor arrivals from Destination Canada’s 11 target markets rose 9 per cent year over year.

Meanwhile, secondary cities, off the popular tourist path, are making the greatest headway when it comes to attracting travellers, according to the latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) from Hotels.com.

Windsor, Barrie and Mont Tremblant all reported an increase in popularity between both domestic and international travellers. Revelstoke and Waterloo were new additions to the top 50 most popular destinations for international travellers. Winnipeg is the one exception as the ninth most popular city for Canadian travellers having broken into the top 10 and climbing two spots in the first half of the year.

The biggest growth reported among international visitors was in cities located in British Columbia and Ontario.
