Amazon to spend $12bn on Louisiana data centres

Amazon will spend $12 billion on data centre campuses in Bossier and Caddo parishes in Louisiana to boost its AI and cloud computing services, reported GCR.

Stack Infrastructure, an industry specialist, will build the facilities, creating up to 1,500 construction jobs.

Amazon said these data centres would employ 540 people when they’re operational, and that 1,710 ongoing jobs would be created for electricians, HVAC technicians, project engineers and operations managers.

The company said it would invest $400m in public water infrastructure and claimed the data centres will run on surplus water.

The company also said that for 87% of the year, natural air would be used to cool the data centres, not water, reducing electricity demand by 25–35%.

Construction in Louisiana is due to begin immediately and be completed in phases. 

At present, Amazon has four fulfillment and sortation centres and seven delivery stations in Louisiana, spending $4.7bn in the state between 2010 to 2024.
