Safari Group, a leading Saudi construction specialist, has clinched a major contract for the expansion of Hail Airport in north-central Saudi Arabia under the Airports Cluster II programme.

The contract was awarded by Matarat Holding, a key Saudi entity which is responsible for operation and development of 22 regional airports across the kingdom.

On completion, it will increase Hail Airport’s annual capacity to around 1.7 million passengers by 2030 through terminal upgrades, expanded departures and arrivals areas and enhanced baggage handling facilities in addition to a new 5,600 sqm southern extension connected to the existing terminal, reported MEED.

The contract was first tendered in January this year with the bid deadline extended several times before the award, it stated.

The expansion forms part of Saudi Arabia’s wider aviation strategy, which targets 330 million passengers annually by 2030, alongside airport developments including Taif International Airport and new terminal projects at Qassim Airport, it added.
