Bahrain and the UAE have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on the implementation of the "One Stop" pre-clearance project for air travellers, aimed at streamlining border procedures and improving the passenger travel experience.
The agreement was signed between Bahrain's Nationality,
Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) at the Ministry of Interior and the Air
Ports Affairs Sector of the UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship,
Customs and Port Security.
Bahrain was represented by Brigadier Abdulaziz Al Dossary, Assistant Undersecretary for
Ports, Search and Follow-up, while the UAE delegation was led by Dr Hamad Al
Mashghouni, Executive Director of the Air Ports Affairs Sector.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in
implementing the initiative, including the secure exchange of passenger
pre-clearance data in line with international standards for information
security and data protection.
It also promotes greater integration of electronic systems,
more efficient operational procedures and improved services for travellers.
Officials from both countries said the agreement reflects
the strong bilateral relationship between Bahrain and the UAE while supporting
wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) efforts to modernise border management,
strengthen security cooperation and facilitate the movement of passengers
across the region.
The MoU was signed in Abu Dhabi in line with a decision
adopted during the 42nd meeting of GCC Interior Ministers to implement the
"One Stop" initiative as part of broader efforts to enhance regional
integration and modernise travel systems through advanced technology.
Bahrain and the UAE officially launched the "One
Stop" project on February 16 at Bahrain International Airport and Zayed
International Airport.
The initiative allows passengers to complete immigration procedures for their destination country before departure, significantly reducing clearance times on arrival and ensuring a faster, more seamless travel experience. -TradeArabia News Service
