Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere in Piedmont appoints Francesco Giovannelli as Monastero Manager, wins major design recognition ahead of opening this May
Atmosphere Core is signalling a sophisticated entry into the European market with its inaugural heritage property, Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere. The project has recently gained significant momentum following a prestigious architectural award and the appointment of an industry veteran to lead the monastery-turned-hotel.
Italian architect Stefano Tardito was recently honoured with the Rēgula 2025 Award in the Hospitality category for his masterful work on the property. Recognised at the 8th edition of the Rēgula | 100 Italian Projects Award in Milan, the jury praised Tardito for skilfully converting the 18th-century monastic complex into a refined luxury destination.
The restoration was noted for its delicate balance between historical authenticity and modern innovation. Commenting on the project, Tardito stated, "The result is a harmonious encounter between past and present that allows the monastery to preserve its historical authenticity while evolving into immersive and seductive spaces.”
To lead this transition into heritage hospitality, Atmosphere Core has appointed Francesco Giovannelli as Monastero Manager. Giovannelli brings over 15 years of leadership in high-end hospitality, with specialised operational experience in Italy’s most culturally rich regions, including Piedmont and Tuscany.
A recipient of the Hospitality Award 2025, Giovannelli is tasked with elevating the guest experience while safeguarding the property’s local soul.
Set within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Langhe region, Borgo Monchiero Heritage by Atmosphere offers an intimate 19-room retreat built within a restored 1773 monastery. On site are a restaurant and wine room dedicated to local Piedmontese cuisine, complemented by an elegant lounge bar set in ancient frescoed rooms. Guests will enjoy a wellness area located in vaulted brick basements, featuring a private jacuzzi and heated pool installed within a centuries-old terracotta water reservoir. The site is also home to a beautifully preserved chapel, ideal for weddings and intimate ceremonies.
