IHG to open Crowne Plaza Newcastle, Hotel Indigo Gosford

IHG Hotels & Resorts has expanded its strategic partnership with Urban Property Group, announcing plans for two new hotels in New South Wales that will bring the relationship to three properties across the state.

The projects include Crowne Plaza Newcastle and Hotel Indigo Gosford, following the signing of Crowne Plaza Parramatta in 2025.

The partnership spans metropolitan and regional NSW, supporting IHG’s expansion in markets benefiting from infrastructure investment, tourism and population growth.

Crowne Plaza Newcastle is expected to open in late 2029 as part of Urban’s mixed-use development next to Newcastle Interchange.

The 171-room hotel will occupy a 43-storey development alongside 219 residential apartments.

The hotel will feature an all-day restaurant, lobby bar, swimming pool and more than 550 square metres of meetings and events space, including a 425-square-metre ballroom.

IHG said the property will strengthen Newcastle’s premium accommodation and business-events offering as the city’s visitor and commercial economy expands.

Hotel Indigo Gosford is scheduled to open in mid-2030 within Urban’s The Waterfront precinct.

The 152-room hotel will overlook Brisbane Water and include a neighbourhood café, rooftop pool and wellness facilities.

The Hotel Indigo concept will incorporate elements of Gosford’s local character into its design and guest experience, while targeting the Central Coast’s growing overnight visitor market.

IHG Managing Director for Australasia & Pacific Matt Tripolone said the three projects signed with Urban over the past year demonstrate the companies’ shared strategy and provide opportunities for further growth.

Urban Property Group Co-CEO Patrick Elias said hospitality forms part of the company’s broader strategy to create mixed-use destinations combining residential, retail, commercial and hotel offerings. -TTN
