Lech’s lasting allure beckons

Lech am Arlberg ...a year round destination

Winter season this year starts on December 2 and holidaymakers can explore the winter forest on foot or on the cross-country ski run along the Lech river. There is ice skating, sledding, curling, horse-drawn sleigh rides and tandem flights.

However, Lech Zürs am Arlberg is more than a winter destination. It is, in fact, an all-year-round destination.

Lech Zürs am Arlberg consists of four districts, Oberlech, Zug, Zürs and Lech, all very close to one another. If you don’t bring a car, then there is a very good bus service to get you around the region with ease.

If you/your clients love the outdoors, Lech Zürs has much to offer. From hiking, running or just slow walking trails, to mountain biking and fishing as well as one of Austria’s highest golf courses all with the most beautiful views. I would recommend the electric bikes as you will be doing some climbing, but there is different levels for everyone of all ages.

There is also a new forest swimming pool with a 25-m sports pool, an aquafit pool with bubble loungers and massage jets, a children’s pool, a baby pool and a wide wave slide.

Most of places to stay in are family run and one such place is Hotel Schranz, a four-star hotel that has been in the family for three generations. The property is close to the ski resorts, so in winter you can ski in and ski out.

Run for over 25 years by Christine and Klaus Schuster and their children, who along with their other staff personally look after you. Each meal, they remember your favourite coffee and beverage, offering advice on what to do and try in the area, and on your return from a day out, ask how your day was.

Our stay was half board, and the evening meal menu changed each night offering delicious Austrian dishes. There is also a wellness and spa at the hotel that I didn’t have a chance to try, but next time.

Getting to Lech Zürs am Arlberg is easy from the Middle East by flying either to Zurich or Munich where you can pick up a car and be there with two to three hours, or there is as we know, great train service in Austria, Switzerland and Germany that will get you to Langen or St Anton am Arlberg – another beautiful place to visit and easy access on the bus from Lech am Arlberg.
