Qatar’s tourism sector recorded 2.338 million international visitor arrivals between January and August 2026, driven by sustained demand from neighbouring Gulf markets and broadening international long-haul feeder routes.
Official data released by Qatar Tourism indicates consistent month-on-month momentum through the summer corridor, with August arrivals reaching 303,000, a 6.3 per cent rise compared to the 285,000 visitors registered in July.
The inbound performance comes on the heels of a benchmark year in 2025, when the country attracted 5.1 million international arrivals and hospitality revenues climbed 12 per cent to QAR 8.3 billion ($2.28 billion).
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) cemented its position as Qatar’s dominant source market, contributing 958,000 visitors through August, or 41 per cent of total inbound volume.
Regional connectivity via the Abu Samra land border, paired with point-to-point shuttle operations across regional carriers, continues to anchor short-break and weekend leisure flows into Doha.
International feeder markets maintained healthy market shares, with Asia & Oceania accounting for 489,000 arrivals (20.9 per cent of total arrivals); Europe with 486,000 arrivals (20.8 per cent); Americas, other Arab nations and Africa.
The data underscores Visit Qatar’s strategic push to diversify from an aviation stopover model into an extended-stay cultural, leisure, and MICE hub.
Backed by Hamad International Airport’s network reach and streamlined entry through the Hayya visa platform, the national tourism board has ramped up trade outreach across primary travel markets. A dedicated delegation of 50 local hospitality and destination management partners is spearheading commercial activations across regional roadshows and international trade expos to build momentum ahead of the peak winter 2026/2027 season.
The destination's forward pipeline is anchored by Doha’s designation as the GCC Tourism Capital for 2026, supported by an active calendar of sports, cultural exhibitions, and cruise calls scheduled through Doha Port.
