Florence offers travellers a more relaxed way to experience its artistic heritage in autumn, with the first Sunday of October bringing Domenica al Museo and free admission to many of Italy’s state museums.
Visitors can explore major attractions including the Uffizi,
Palazzo Pitti’s Palatine and Modern Art galleries, Boboli Gardens, the Galleria
dell’Accademia, Bargello and Medici Chapels without admission fees.
Other participating sites include San Marco, the
Archaeological Museum, Medici Villas and several smaller historic landmarks.
The Vasari Corridor remains an exception, requiring advance reservations.
The initiative provides an opportunity to explore Florence
beyond its busiest tourist routes, although visitors should expect queues at
popular museums as free Sunday admission cannot be booked in advance.
Hotel Calimala, located in central Florence, offers a
design-focused base for exploring the city’s cultural attractions.
Designed by Alex Meitlis, the hotel features 103 rooms and
suites combining exposed stone, contemporary art, custom furnishings and rich
textures.
After a day of museums and historic architecture, guests can
unwind at the hotel’s Angel Roofbar & Dining, where panoramic views over
Florence provide a setting for drinks and dining.
Together, the autumn museum programme and central hotel
location offer travellers a chance to experience Florence’s art, architecture
and neighbourhoods at a more leisurely pace.-TTN
